Trump Cancels Kamala Harris’ Secret Service Protection
President Trump has revoked former Vice President Kamala Harris’ Secret Service detail that was quietly extended by former President Joe Biden before he left office.
Former vice presidents traditionally receive six months of protection following their terms — which meant Harris would have lost her detail July 21.
However, a senior administration official confirmed to The Post that Biden extended the Harris detail for a full year shortly before departing the White House Jan. 20.
Trump signed his own order Thursday removing the Harris detail effective Sept. 1, sources said.
The move, first reported by CNN, comes with Harris set to publish a memoir of her failed presidential run in 2024 — in which she became the first Democrat to lose the popular vote in 20 years.
“You are hereby authorized to discontinue any security-related procedures previously authorized by Executive Memorandum, beyond those required by law, for the following individual, effective September 1, 2025: Former Vice President Kamala D. Harris,” a letter, obtained by CNN, read.
It remains unclear why Harris detail was extended by Biden, but sources told the outlet her candidacy, race and gender could have been a factor.
In March, Trump revoked Harris’ security clearance, preventing the former veep from getting access to classified information. Biden, 2016 Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and New York state Attorney General Letitia James also had their access stripped.
The Secret Service protects the sitting president, vice president and their families during their tenure, and protection is extended to all former presidents and their spouses, as well as their children until they turn 16.
Biden signed an executive order at the end of his term extending the detail to his family, but Trump reversed the order when he came into office, removing protection from former first son Hunter Biden and first daughter Ashley Biden.
Hunter was spotted walking around South Africa in mid-March with an extensive security detail, raising questions about government resources going to assist travel by a private citizen.
Trump also cut off details from former National Institutes of Health official Dr. Anthony Fauci, former Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, former national security adviser John Bolton and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, among others.
