Texas: Gunman Killed After Ambush on Border Agents

A deranged gunman with a terror slogan spray painted on his car has been killed after storming into a U.S. Border Patrol building in Texas and opening fire.

The gunman, who was identified as Ryan Louis Mosqueda, approached the Rio Grande Valley Sector Annex near McAllen International Airport early Monday morning.

Mosqueda, who was around 27 years old, was shot and killed by federal agents, McAllen Police Department chief Victor Rodriguez said during a press conference.

He was armed with an assault rifle and was wearing tactical gear when he ambushed Border Patrol agents.

'There were many, many dozens of rounds fired by the suspect towards the building and toward agents in that building,' Rodriguez said.

Authorities located Mosqueda's Chevrolet two-door vehicle in a parking lot with the Latin phase 'CORDIS DIE' spray painted in black on the driver's door.

The phrase is used as the name of the anarchist terror group led by Raul Menendez in Call of Duty: Black Ops II and Call of Duty: Strike Team.

McAllen Police Department officer Ismael García, who has 10 years of service, was wounded on the knee during the shooting, Saenz said.

It's unknown if he was struck by Mosqueda or by friendly fire.

The Department of Homeland Security later said in a statement that another police officer and a Border Patrol employee were injured in the incident.

All flights at McAllen Airport have been delayed as a result of the ordeal.

Graphic photos showed Mosqueda lying dead outside of the federal building.

'Early this morning, an active shooting took place at Rio Grande Valley Sector Annex,' U.S. Customs and Border Protection said in a statement.

'The suspect is deceased. The incident is still under investigation additional information will be shared as it becomes available.'

Rodriguez said Mosqueda was reported missing from an address in Weslaco - 16 miles west of McAllen - at 4am before he arrived at Border Patrol building and opened fired.

Mosqueda, who was wearing a utility vest, never made it inside the facility.

The police chief said that Mosqueda was carrying a Michigan driver's license and arrived in a white vehicle, which also had Michigan license plates.

Authorities searched the vehicle and found several weapons, including an additional assault rifle, and ammunition.

Rodriguez said investigators were still looking into whether Mosqueda was the owner of the car.

The FBI is handling the investigation.

The shooting at the Rio Grande Valley Sector Annex comes just days after an Alvarado Police Department officer was shot near an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention center in Prairieland, Texas.

The police officer was shot in the neck and treated at Fort Worth hospital, where he was discharged.

Multiple suspects were arrested after trying to flee the scene of the shooting.

'The Department [of Justice] has zero tolerance for assaults on federal officers or property and will bring the full weight of the law against those responsible,' Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said on X following Friday's shooting.

The attack also comes as President Donald Trump's administration ramps up deportations, which will be turbocharged by a massive spending bill that became law last week.

Deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller, who has masterminded Trump's immigration policies, recently set a target of at least 3,000 immigration arrests a day, up from about 650 a day during the first five months of the administration.
