Robert Mueller Diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease

Former Special Counsel Robert Mueller has Parkinson's disease, which prevents him from complying with a request to testify before a congressional committee this week, the New York Times reported on Sunday.

House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer subpoenaed Mueller as part of its Epstein investigation in regards to the 81-year-old's former role as FBI director.

"Bob was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in the summer of 2021," his family said to the NYT of the former special counsel who investigated Russian interference in the 2016 election during President Trump's first term.

"He retired from the practice of law at the end of that year. He taught at his law school alma mater during the fall of both 2021 and 2022, and he retired at the end of 2022. His family asks that his privacy be respected."

Parkinson's disease causes nerve cells in parts of the brain to "weaken, become damaged, and die, leading to symptoms that include problems with movement, tremor, stiffness, and impaired balance," per a National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke post.

"As symptoms progress, people with Parkinson's disease (PD) may have difficulty walking, talking, or completing other simple tasks."
