Lauren Boebert’s Son Charged with Child Abuse
Rep. Lauren Boebert’s troubled eldest son has been charged with child abuse following an incident involving her grandson.
Tyler, the 20-year-old son of the Republican congresswoman and her ex-husband, Jayson, was slapped with the misdemeanor charge in Colorado on July 11, Denver Westword reported Saturday, citing Windsor Police Department records.
Rep. Boebert downplayed the charge, saying it was the result of “a miscommunication on monitoring my young grandson that recently led to him getting out of our house.”
In a statement, the 38-year-old grandmother, who represents Colorado’s fourth congressional district, called it a “one-time incident,” and said the boy was not injured.
Child Protective Services met with the family.
“I am confident this is a one-time incident that we have addressed as a family,” Boebert said.
Tyler Boebert’s girlfriend became pregnant with his child when he was 17, the three-term congresswoman announced in 2023.
Boebert’s office did not respond immediately to requests for comment.
It is the latest in a string of legal issues involving the MAGA Republican’s eldest son.
In September 2022, Tyler flipped his father’s SUV while driving, leaving his passenger with multiple concussions and sever lacerations, according to reports.
He was ticketed for careless driving, but the case was eventually dropped down to a “defective vehicle for headlights” ticket under a plea deal with Garfield County prosecutors.
In January 2024, Tyler called the police and said his father was assaulting him at their home.
Jayson Boebert was arrested after he allegedly “pushed Tyler to the ground and pushed his thumb into his mouth,” according to a Garfield County arrest affidavit.
At the time of the most recent incident, Tyler was serving a 24-month probation after pleading guilty to attempting to commit identity theft in October 2024.
The guilty plea was negotiated with officials after he was arrested on 22 criminal charges, including five felonies, for his role in a string of thefts around Colorado in February 2024.
One of his victims was a 33-year-old woman who was saving up for brain surgery and left with nothing after the robbery, she claimed in a lawsuit.
Tyler had made a sex tape with one of his female accomplices and distributed the video to another person in the theft ring, another lawsuit claimed.
Part of his probation required Boebert to complete 80 hours of community service and he was banned from using controlled substances, Westword reported.
It is unclear if the misdemeanor charge violates his probation order.
Tyler Boebert is scheduled to appear in Weld County Court for the child abuse charge on Sept. 8.
