ICE Agent Kills Woman Attempting to Ram Officer

An Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent shot and killed a woman on Wednesday who allegedly attempted to run over law enforcement with her vehicle amid immigration enforcement conducting a crackdown in Minneapolis.

Department of Homeland Security spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin said that the woman was shot in her vehicle in a residential neighborhood in Minneapolis, The Associated Press reported.

"Today, ICE officers in Minneapolis were conducting targeted operations when rioters began blocking ICE officers and one of these violent rioters weaponized her vehicle, attempting to run over our law enforcement officers in an attempt to kill them—an act of domestic terrorism," McLaughlin said in a statement.

"An ICE officer, fearing for his life, the lives of his fellow law enforcement and the safety of the public, fired defensive shots."

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said that ICE agents were attacked while attempting to get their car unstuck in the snow.

Police at a press conference said that the woman was shot while driving away.

Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara said that the woman who was shot was struck in the head, FOX 9 reported. He added that the woman was rushed to Hennepin County Medical Center after the shooting, where she was pronounced dead. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the FBI are taking over the investigation.

In FOX 9's review of a video of the shooting, the woman in a Honda Pilot SUV appeared to be blocking the road in front of an ICE squad. As agents approached the woman, she backed up and pulled forward. While pulling forward, an ICE agent in front of the vehicle pulled his service weapon. The agent fired at least one shot into the vehicle as he sidestepped the moving SUV. The vehicle then crashed into a parked car.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) posted on X regarding the shooting, writing, "I’ve seen the video. Don’t believe this propaganda machine. The state will ensure there is a full, fair, and expeditious investigation to ensure accountability and justice."

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said regarding DHS's explanation of the shooting, "So they are already trying to spin this as an action of self-defense. Having seen the video ... myself, I want to tell everybody directly that is bullsh-t."

He added that he feels "this was an agent recklessly using power that resulted in somebody dying."

"We have been in contact with law enforcement leaders, the Attorney General, and the Governor's Office throughout the morning and are pushing hard for a local investigation which is the only way to ensure full transparency and review by our office. We will use every available lever to ensure a local, transparent investigation takes place," Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty said in a statement.

Frey posted on X, "I am aware of a shooting involving an ICE agent at 34th Street & Portland. The presence of federal immigration enforcement agents is causing chaos in our city. We’re demanding ICE to leave the city immediately. We stand rock solid with our immigrant and refugee communities."

There was a large presence of federal and local officers, yellow police tape, and cars that had been in a crash, according to live video posted online, with U.S. Customs and Border Protection Cmdr. Gregory Bovino among them.

"We are aware of a shooting involving a federal agent at 34th Street and Portland. We are working to confirm additional information, but what we know is that the presence of federal immigration enforcement agents is causing chaos in our city and making our community less safe. Mayor Frey is demanding ICE to leave the city and state immediately. We stand by our immigrant and refugee communities – know that you have our full support," the City of Minneapolis Government posted on Facebook.

Update

The woman has been identified as 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good, who described herself as a mother, a wife and a poet.

Good was identified by her mom hours after she was killed when she allegedly tried to ram ICE agents on a street in the city, the Star Tribune reported.

“Renee was one of the kindest people I’ve ever known,” her mother, Donna Ganger, told the newspaper.

Her mom added: “She was extremely compassionate. She’s taken care of people all her life. She was loving, forgiving and affectionate. She was an amazing human being.”

“She was probably terrified,” Ganger added, saying the circumstances of the death were “so stupid.”

Good was a “writer and poet,” and was previously married to a comedian who died in 2023, also at age 37.

“Wife and mom and sh–ty guitar strummer from Colorado; experiencing Minneapolis,” read her Instagram bio, which was accompanied by a pride flag and she/her pronouns.
