Comey's Son-in-Law Quits DOJ

James Comey’s son-in-law abruptly resigned from his gig as a federal prosecutor Thursday — just minutes after the ex-FBI director was indicted by a federal grand jury.

Troy Edwards Jr. quit his position as a senior national security prosecutor within the Eastern District of Virginia, which is the same office now prosecuting his father-in-law.

In a one-sentence resignation letter addressed to new US Attorney Lindsey Halligan, Edwards said he was leaving “to uphold my oath to the Constitution and the country.”

The indictment against Comey, 64, alleges he lied to Congress while giving his Sept. 30, 2020, congressional testimony amid the Trump-Russia collusion investigation.

Comey — who served as FBI director from 2013 until Trump fired him in 2017 — insisted he was innocent but was expected to surrender Friday.

The former top lawman was charged with making false statements and obstruction of justice. He is facing up to five years in prison if convicted on both counts.

Trump, who for years derided the Russiagate investigation as a “hoax” and a “witch hunt,” celebrated the indictment — insisting that the “dirty cop” ex-FBI director must pay “a very big price.”

“Whether you like Corrupt James Comey or not, and I can’t imagine too many people liking him, HE LIED! It is not a complex lie, it’s a very simple, but IMPORTANT one,” Trump seethed in an early Truth Social post.

“There is no way he can explain his way out of it. He is a Dirty Cop, and always has been, but he was just assigned a Crooked Joe Biden-appointed Judge, so he’s off to a very good start.”

Meanwhile, FBI Director Kash Patel on Friday ripped critics who accused the DOJ of only going after Comey because Trump considered him a political enemy.

“Career FBI agents, intel analysts, and staff led the investigation into Comey and others. They called the balls and strikes and will continue to do so,” Patel said in a statement on X.

“The wildly false accusations attacking this FBI for the politicization of law enforcement comes from the same bankrupt media that sold the world on Russia Gate – it’s hypocrisy on steroids. Their baseless objections tell us now, more than ever, that we are precisely over the target and will remain on mission until completion.”

Comey, for his part, said his “heart is broken” for the Justice Department in the wake of the indictment.

News of his son-in-law’s resignation comes after Comey’s eldest daughter, Maureen Comey, was fired from her job as a federal prosecutor in Manhattan in July.

She filed a lawsuit earlier this month claiming she was axed “solely or substantially because her father is former FBI Director James B. Comey.”
