“CBS Evening News” co-anchor John Dickerson is leaving CBS by the end of the year, according to a source.

Dickerson will continue to co-anchor the news with Maurice DuBois until he departs, a CBS News spokesperson confirmed. The news comes as CBS News braces for a steep round of layoffs, which are expected to hit this week.

Dickerson, 57, took the co-anchor job earlier this year when then-CBS News president Wendy McMahon decided to shake up the struggling news network and oust then-anchor Norah O’Donnell.

Dickerson shared the news on Instagram on Monday morning, writing: “At the end of this year, I will leave CBS, sixteen years after I sat in as ‘Face the Nation’ anchor for the first time.”

The journalist, who joined CBS in 2009, signed off, thanking his colleagues for making him a “better journalist and a better human.”

Dickerson has widely been rumored to be on the outs at the program since CBS News president Tom Cibrowski was tapped to run the network with newly-minted editor in chief Bari Weiss.

Ratings have cratered at the show with viewers — and top brass — complaining that the having two-anchors has been “clunky,” “awkward” and “lacked chemistry.”

It is unclear if DuBois will be named sole anchor, but it appears to be unlikely Weiss and Cibrowski have been interviewing candidates for the job. Internally, “CBS Mornings” co-anchor Tony Dokoupil is a frontrunner, a well-placed source told The Post.

O’Donnell, too, has been floated as someone who could potentially return to the chair — but a source with knowledge said that is “not going to happen.”

The Post previously reported on a looming shakeup at the struggling evening news program — which has lost about 1 million total viewers in a year.

According to Nielsen, the show has been averaging under 4.2 million total viewers for the season — a 10% dip — suffering the steepest decline among rivals, top-ranked ABC’ “World News Tonight” and NBC’s “Nightly News.”

Inside the halls of Tiffany Network, the “Evening News” has been ripped for “how unwatchable it is,” with one former exec calling the show “rudderless.”

“If you’re going to do something different, you need to do it with confidence and assurance and this team has none of that,” the source said. “They are alone. They feel it and the viewers feel it.”

CBS News president Cibrowski this summer pushed out executive producer Guy Campanile, who was moved back to “60 Minutes,” as first reported by The Post.

The show had been relaunched under Cibrowski’s former boss McMahon, who exited the network earlier this year. McMahon ousted then-anchor O’Donnell, whose ratings last year had hovered between 4.5 million and 5 million viewers, and installed DuBois and Dickerson.

Aside from the dual-anchor addition, McMahon put then-“60 Minutes” executive producer Bill Owens in charge of the show. He reformatted the 30-minute show to include more in-depth segments but in doing so, the program whiffed on covering some major breaking news events.

The show made some tweaks to shift more towards news, but once Owens exited the network in April, Campanile reverted back to features despite Cibrowski’s orders for more straight news, The Post reported.

Over the summer, Jeff Shell — the former NBCUniversal boss tapped by Skydance as Paramount’s new president — told managers at the home to Paramount Pictures, CBS, MTV and Showtime to start compiling “kill lists,” The Post reported.

Those cuts are expected to save the media giant over $2 billion and will be completed in one “painful” fell swoop, Shell told journalists in August.
