Thousands of bikers rode from the Pentagon through Washington, D.C. and around the National Mall on Sunday as part of the 37th annual "Rolling to Remember" motorcycle ride.

Riders from across the country gathered in the Nation's Capital to participate in this tradition, putting in hundreds of miles on the road to ride in the memorial.

"It's an important causes to remember those who have served our country and those who have not made it back yet, those that are suffering PTSD," said Taz Sellers, who was one of the bikers taking part in the event. "It is emotional because my dad did serve. He's in a better place right now. Especially since my dad passed, anything to do that honors our military is important. Today is for not only my dad, but all of our veterans."

The purpose of the ride is to raise awareness on the plight of U.S. prisoners of war and the 83,000 service members still missing in action, according to the event's organizer AMVETS.

"[I have a] big military family, just the opportunity to come to show some respect and memoriam for those who are not with us any longer," said James Lambert, who is also one of the bikers. "If we were sitting at home barbecuing or sitting by a swimming pool, we wouldn't have that reflection like we've got here."

Many bikers arrived in D.C. on Saturday and started the weekend-long get-together with the Blessing of the Bikes at Washington National Cathedral.

“This will not be a party. It is a serious demonstration to bring awareness to suicide prevention and continue our demand for full accounting of every U.S. Service Member still missing in action.,” said AMVETS National Executive Director Joe Chenelly.

Rolling to Remember also aims to address the national suicide epidemic, which takes the lives of more than 20 military veterans a day, according to AMVETS.
