Trump Lauds House Spending Bill, Urges GOP United Front
President Donald Trump praised the new spending bill unveiled by the House on Saturday, calling it a “very good” bill that will ensure the government has time to “put the Country’s ‘financial house’ in order.”
In a statement posted on Truth Social, Trump, while lauding the bill that will fund the government until the end of fiscal 2025 in late September, said it is “very important” that there is no dissent from House Republicans and urged them all to vote in favor of it as they can only afford to lose one vote to pass the continuing resolution along party lines.
“The House and Senate have put together, under the circumstances, a very good funding Bill (‘CR’)! All Republicans should vote (Please!) YES next week. Great things are coming for America, and I am asking you all to give us a few months to get us through to September so we can continue to put the Country’s ‘financial house’ in order. Democrats will do anything they can to shut down our Government, and we can’t let that happen. We have to remain UNITED — NO DISSENT — Fight for another day when the timing is right. VERY IMPORTANT. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” the president said.
The 99-page continuing resolution revealed earlier Saturday includes moderate increases to defense spending and a $13 billion decrease to nondefense spending.
In the bill, those totals are at $892.5 billion and $708 billion, respectively. It also includes an additional $9.9 billion in funding for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and a $6 billion increase in funding for veterans’ healthcare.
However, there won’t be any community projects in the bill, nor any disaster aid or emergency funding.
According to leadership staff, Trump worked closely with House leaders on the bill and has even secured the support of hard-line Republicans who have derailed votes on funding bills in the past.
The CR will head to the Rules Committee on Monday, with a vote set for final passage on Tuesday.
