Spain’s Deputy PM Attacked in Broad Daylight by Knife-Wielding Man

Spain's Deputy PM was targeted by a man brandishing knives in broad daylight - before cops tasered and arrested the suspect.

Yolanda Díaz was targeted in a horror attack after a man assaulted her two bodyguards with a pair of knives.

The assault took place near the Ateneo Theatre on Prado Street in Madrid at around 12pm on May 8, according to local news outlet Los Replicantes.

But the dramatic assault was foiled after police reinforcements used a Taser gun to subdue the attacker.

Officers from the Centro Regional Police (GOR) and the General Acquisition (GAC) stepped in at a crucial moment to stop the individual's attack.

Police confirmed later on Thursday that Ms Diaz was not caught up in the incident but was informed about it afterwards.

He fled with two knives, pointing them at officers and at himself.

Cops also blocked street traffic due to the large crowd and commotion.

Díaz's bodyguards even pointed their own weapons at the attacker.

After the man threatened to cut his own throat, an officer used his Taser gun to neutralise the suspect.

Another cop hit him in the arm, before he dropped his knives and was arrested.

The raging attacker was taken to the Centro District Police Station in Madrid.

The brazen suspect is accused of assaulting a law enforcement officer and making serious threats.

In 2023, labour minister Díaz blasted the actions of Luis Rubiales and the male colleagues who have defended him.

Spanish FA chief Rubiales, who has been suspended by Fifa, kissed captain Jenni Hermoso on the lips during the trophy presentation after the World Cup Final.

She said "the worst of Spanish society" was on display as Rubiales was applauded by some of his male co-workers.

The attack comes after a top Spanish politician was shot in the face in Madrid during an assassination attempt.

Alejo Vidal-Quadras Roca, the former head of Spain's People's Party in the Catalonia region, was ambushed by a gunman on a motorbike.

He miraculously survived after he was shot at point-blank range from just two metres away as he was walking to his car.

In an exclusive interview with The Sun, Vidal-Quadras declared he was the Iranian regime's "Public Enemy No. 1".

He accused Tehran of orchestrating the attempt on his life - which left his jaw shattered and requiring reconstructive surgery using metal plates.
