Bongino: FBI Investigating Cocaine in Biden WH
The FBI is investigating "potential public corruption" in three well-known cases that include the D.C. pipe-bombing probe, cocaine found at President Joe Biden's White House, and a leak of the Supreme Court's Dobbs decision, Deputy Director Dan Bongino said.
Bongino took to social platform X on Monday morning to say he and FBI Director Kash Patel decided to "re-open, or push additional resources and investigative attention" toward the three cases.
"Shortly after swearing in, the Director and I evaluated a number of cases of potential public corruption that, understandably, have garnered public interest," Bongino wrote.
"I receive requested briefings on these cases weekly and we are making progress. If you have any investigative tips on these matters that may assist us then please contact the FBI."
Bongino also explained why he and Patel "have done only one media interview together" since arriving at the FBI.
"We decided early on to limit our media footprint overall in order to keep the attention on the work being done," he said. "There are both positives and negatives to this approach. We have chosen to communicate, in writing, on this platform to fill some of the inevitable information vacuums.
"I try to read as much of your feedback as possible but the workday is busy, and my office is a SCIF [Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility] with limited phone access. In response to feedback, both positive and negative, from our interview last week we will be releasing more information which will further clarify answers to some of the questions asked in the interview."
On Jan. 5, 2021, hours before the attack at the U.S. Capitol, a suspect placed pipe bombs near the headquarters of the Republican National Committee and the Democratic National Committee in Washington, D.C.
Although the bombs did not detonate, the suspect walked along residential and commercial areas in Capitol Hill just blocks from the U.S. Capitol with viable pipe bombs that could have seriously injured or killed innocent bystanders.
On July 2, 2023, cocaine was found in a working area of the White House's West Wing. It was near an entrance commonly used to give tours and where visitors are instructed to place their phones and other belongings.
The location also is near a basement entrance, one floor below the Oval Office and just steps from the Situation Room.
The Secret Service conducted a brief investigation that found no fingerprints or DNA on the bag of cocaine, and surveillance footage of the area didn't identify a suspect.
Bongino has previously alleged, without presenting any evidence, that he was in touch with whistleblowers who told him they were "suspicious" that evidence from the White House cocaine bag "could match a member of the inner Biden circle."
In May 2022, Chief Justice John Roberts confirmed the authenticity of a leaked draft opinion — which ultimately overturned the landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade case that legalized abortion nationwide — and ordered an investigation into what he called an "egregious breach of trust."
The leaker has never been identified despite probes by the Supreme Court and House Judiciary Committee.
